Making a band

As all young people they like to stay up late, go to parties, go after girls and play the guitar that the neighbors have stay up until the morning comes. Lots of us want to be in a band or even make one. I interviewed some band people and asked what are the main things you have to consider by making a band. First of all you have to know what kind of music is in your heart and what kind of music you want to play. Second important thing is to compromise with other band mates. Each person gives his goal and team work is very important. Very important thing is rhythm. To make good nu-metal songs, you have to be able to fantasies, come up with new crazy ideas and be able to put it all together.

Have fun finding them!

Human Ground

Human Ground is a band that has it is origin in Estonia and their self titled album is their debut. The quality of bands coming from that country is getting better and better and that’s emphasized with the release of this album from Human Ground. The reason why the music sounds very professional from the beginning and also artistic should be that almost every member is still or was active in other bands. Only vocalist Pille doesn’t have that experience, but I have to tell you that she has done a very good job on this album. Songs have good structures and quite some interesting and technical riffs without loosing flow. A lot of variation with clean insturmental parts and even an acoustical song with female vocals. Great production and tight musicianship designed to shatter human grounds.

East Trading Wang

This CD released by Nailboard Records has some intrigue inside. First, it’s the second album of the popular Estonian band. They wrote the music for the movie “Little Nicky” by New Line Cinema, where Ozzy once again bit the head of a bat off. East Trading Wang has won a Grand Prix at the International GarageBand.com competition in 2000. And also one little thing - their debut album “Employees Of The Year” 2004 received positive reactions from critics and fans alike. Something promising for those tired of the endless Scandinavian clones in metal.
Heavy, but melodic, the rhythmic structure of the songs are simple and catchy, the creative composing, the melodic lines are held by vocals too - nothing superfluous. You put the CD into the player and start headbanging with the wonderful riff of the opener “No Way”. All in all, if you are a fan of good riffs, this band is for you. The only minus of the album is that you’ll never know what the title means without knowing Estonian, I guess…

LOITS "Ei Kahetse Midagi"

Neither Loits nor Nailboard Records have anything to regret, since the long-awaited re-release of Loits´s debut album with two bonus tracks will soon be available to all. Thus it is again with pleasure that we announce the possibility of pre-ordering. All pre-ordered "Ei Kahetse Midagi" digipaks of Loits will be signed by band members.
Concerning their ideological basis, there is a note that guys had some critics flowing towards the band, and I remember Dangus compilation booklet mentioned their concept that deals with politically incorrect viewpoints, but going through these lyrics I can`t see any heavy proclamations at all.

M: Ibanez SA 160 QM

Ibanez SA 160 QM.
If you like Ibanez and the sound he makes, you have a change to get your very own for very normal price. It is in very good shape. The strings stay also in very good shape for a long time. The good thing about Ibanez guitars are that if you play with it like a maniac the sound will not go down, the sound will get even better. But this is only if you play metal, if you want to play some good jazz or classical also, it would be better if you change the strings.
The guitar is bought two years ago in Estonia. If someone is interested then call 53302734 – Siim. The price is 4000 EEK.

Kloostri Ait

At Saturday I went to see the performance of Michael Manring in Kloostri Ait. Surprisingly the show was free and there was nothing to do also in that evening. I remember one time I went to see the performance of Rauno Pehka in the same place. The great thing about Kloostri Ait is that the place is very comfortable, nice tables, a good bar with good food and drinks, but the worst thing is that there is never no place to sit in there. Even if you come one hour earlier there is still no place to sit. All the time there is some other people sitting and eating, they are not there for the show, but to talk about their own business or some other things. Next if there is some good performance in Kloostri Ait I prefer to go there 2 hours earlier and order some drinks or food.

Recycle Bin - success?

In May 1999 Jaan (guitars), Ats (vocals), Jaagup (drums) and Robi (guitars) got together as an experiment and put together a show for their school-party. They were pleasantly surprised by the successful joint effort and decided to continue practising as a band. At first they mostly made covers of famous rock-bands like Metallica, Nirvana and Offspring and since they were young and played popular rock-songs, they were invited to several large festivals. Little by little they got better and started making songs of their own that soon replaced the covers. In 2001 Recycle Bin released their first demo - "Shut Up". It was played on a popular prime time TV - show “7 vaprat” that promotes young Estonian artists. In October 2003, Recycle Bin released its first studio album "Incomplete Schizophrenia". Shortly after releasing the album, the band headed on a tour across Estonia to promote the album. Sadly the guitarist has left the band right now. No one knows why and the band is separated at this moment.

Some string hints from the band people

A little research with some Estonian bands like Encased Sun and Shelton Son and with some others showed that almost everyone has their own favorite guitar strings. The top five have to be: GHS (Boomer, Gyro), Ernie Ball (Beefy Slinky), Dean Markley, Addario, McWill. GHS has to be the best right now for the electric guitar. And if the guitar has GHS Boomer strings, you can be sure that the melodic heavy metal from the speaker will melt your ears. Ernie Ball also has the quality to compare with GHS, but sounds a lot better on Gipson guitars, no one can explain it, but with lots of practice and good hearing anyone can hear the differents. A good way to make your acoustic guitar sound a lot better, is to go to the music shop and buy Dean Markley strings. If to be a little bit cheaper and wanting almost the same sound, La Bella will to the work.
Notice: These good guitar strings will lose their quality with in a few months and the string pack costs 150-350 Estonian money.

Metsatöll - crazy folk guys or real music makers?

Metsatöll started playing at the end of the 1990-s. Metsatöll includes heavy metal with small influences from ancient Estonian folklore. The music of Metsatöll has intertwined more and more with old Estonian rune-singing and traditional melodies. At first the band did not have many fans. Many thought that the band is a media joke. Time went on and people started to like the different sound and the weird image. In the beginning of 2004 the drummer Factor dedicated himself completely to science and he was replaced by another drummer Atso. Metsatöll has re-recorded all old material and released a brand new CD. On 11.th of November at seven o clock there will be “The Big Film” taking and the presentation of a new album “Terast mis hangund me hinge” in Rock Café. So if you want to get your pretty face on the film, get yourself in the club on 11.th of November.

What about free time?

Free time- yes it is the time when people like to spend time doing something what they really like. Hobbies are different, one guy likes to be home, watch TV in bed and drink beer, other guy likes to plant vegetables at the country side. When we watch VH1 and see what rockstaars do on their free time-partying, drinking, having trobles with their love life, it does not differ so much from Estonian rockstars free time. Surely they drink, smoke and make lots of fun orgies, but there is this other differents. The only main differents may be the wealth. Lots of Estonian band people have work also after school or after music making. It is well known and quite a bitty that Estonian rockbands have to work harder to get the album out. But despite all these things, they still have the mood to make music what lots and lots of young Estonians admire.

29.10.05 Depeche Mode Party:Elegant Machinery

Today at Club Hollywood is the 7`th Depeche Mode party. The party is for presenting the new Depeche Mode album "Playing the Angel". It is become like a tradition for Hollywood to make an awesome party with good Depeche Mode music and with other new bands. Quest artist from Swede Elegant Machinery will kick the place even more parting. I think for 125 Kr. To spend an evening today at Club Hollywood will be the perfect choice. The success of Elegant Machinery began at the 80`s. Depeche Mode was the main influence to this band.Everyone who will join the party can win many different prices, like the new album and also tickets to the contsert on 16. of March in Saku Suurhall. Better go, it is much harder to read about it after.

Little story for beginning

As we all know and also lots of people from other countries that Estonians are a little bit different from other people- with their characteristics and being.
That goes to Estonian rock people also. I will try to tell about them with less criticism and try finally bringing out the good and interesting about them.
Free time for these rock machines is very important. The more free time, the more ideas and good stuff we hear on Estonian radio. When we but away such clubs like Hollywood and other fancy places and look what these rock bands have to offer we can find lots of interesting and cool parties. I will write also about these opportunities. When we go to the music stores we can see prices what will make our eyes bigger and wet as they are. Luckily many people have lots of used equipment with good quality and with good prices. Good equipment with good prices will be brought out other time.
